Breadfruit/Deevi Gujje tawa fry

Craving for fried food but want to eat healthy too?

Here is a simple Seasonal Vegetable tava fry receipe which is a healthy alternative to deep fried food , without compromising on taste and flavour it provides required nutrition to your body and satisfies your craving for fried food as well.

Breadfruit or deevi gujje/jeegujje is high in carbohydrates and agood source of antioxidants, calcium, carotenoids, copper, dietary fiber, energy, iron, magnesium, niacin, omega 3, omega 6, phosphorus, potassium, protein, thiamine,vitamin A and vitamin C. Breadfruit also contains some carotenoids . What’s more, it grows naturally, twice in a year, free from chemicals, fertilisers and pesticides. Breadfruit is in season. To reap its neutricitical benefits include it in your daily diet for a better health

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Medium sized Bread fruit 1
Rice flour 3/4 cup
Bengal gram powder 3/4 cup
Arrow root powder 3/4 cup
Chilly powder 1 teaspoon
Pepper powder 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida -a pinch
Carom /Ajwan seeds 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Water
(You can add any spices/ masala powder of your choice)

METHOD

Wash and peel the bread fruit

Cut it into quarters. Discard the centre porus part and cut it into thin slices

Now mix all the ingredients except bread fruit, add little water to make a thick batter( idli batter consistancy)

Heat tawa, apply coconut oil

Toss the bread fruit slices in the batter. See that the slices are evenly coated on all sides and arrange it on the hot tawa

Cover and cook for few (3-4)minutes.

When it is cooked pour 2 teaspoons of coconut oil on it

Flip the other side and cook for few minutes

Remove from fire

Cook the remaining slices in batches
Serve it as a snack or side dish with rice and rasam.

You can ry this receipe with your favourite seasonal vegetables like ridgegourd, brinjal/egg plant, ladies finger, raw curry banana,sweet potato, taro (colocasea)root , sweet pumpkin flower and sweet pumpkin slices and enjoy with your loved ones

NOTE

If you have fresh or leftover dosa batter(lentil dosa/uddina dosa batter), you can mix this to the above batter to make the fries(below in the picture)
